Steve Binks, Former terror of Norham High School {Norham Rd } I think he was introduced into Rugby by a Teacher at that school by the name of Alan Grant { former club member }. Binksy used to hang around with Hydie { Tony Hyde } , Raza { Colin Razmusen } Seed { Chris Reed } Proudy { George Proud } and numerous others whose names have escaped me at the moment. All the previous named people started playing for the school team & then progressed onto the North Shields team, some stayed on & others faded away. Binksy has hung around for a while & put on a little weight by the sound of it. I also suspect that he will still be abusing the players of the opposite team as he always did at school, especially when Norham played Redwell & we got beat a little on points but not on lets say physical contact as Binksy had a rather good physical game tackling the opposition in lots of new slightly illegal ways, namely by the throat or by the head or anything above the waist that might detach with a good vigorous pull. Yes good old Steve then probably as now was a little physical when we were getting beat or even when we were on a pitch with an opposing team. Another little story about when we played for the school team & we would play Ralphies {Ralph Gardener High School } on the way down to Ralphies we would pick up a bottle of milk to drink, a good think to do as milk is good for the bones etc. but it was not from the shop it was usually from a front door step just up the road from the school & it didn’t matter which front door step as long as we didn’t have to pay for it. So who is a Policeman or did I hear wrong? |
